Take a chance

To The Person Who's Always Wanted To Travel

Everyone always talks about how they want to travel the world and see all that it has to offer or at least what their country or the surrounding ones have do.

I encourage you to follow through with that and don't wait, do it now. Book a spontaneous trip and take a chance. Spend 30 minutes deciding where you want to go and then go.

If you would have asked me three years ago, I would have told you the only time I travelled was when my parents would take my brother and I on vacation or I'd go to the state of Illinois to see a concert.

I had jobs through high school and the summer and instead of putting that money towards paying off my college debt I opted to use it to travel instead and to "live while I'm young".

A few summers back was when it all began. My group of friends and I went on a road trip to Minnesota, Indiana, and Illinois to see five difffernt concerts. It wasn't much traveling, just going to a few states surrounding mine but the memories I made from it fueled me to keep going and to travel farther away from Wisconsin.

The summer after that my best friend and I booked out first trip flying somewhere without our parents. Our location was Washington D.C. for five days. We saw so many incredible things and people that just a few months later we booked a spontaneous trip to city we both have dreamed to go to, Los Angeles, California for a weekend.

Most people think I'm crazy for spending $200 round trip to go to a place for less than 48 hours but I'd encourage you to if you have the budget to do so. Most vacations are spent lounging around and ocasionally going out to see places of the city you're going to. Having such a short amount of time forced me to see EVERYTHING. We saw the walk of fame, walked around the entirety of downtown to find different artsy places, saw our favorite band preform, interviewed different artists, went to Santa Monica pier all in that one weekend. Sure, we were exhausted after it but it's now 5 months later and I'm still talking about it, so clearly it wasn't too bad.

If traveling is something you want to do then do it. Take it from me when I say it's worth it and the memories you'll have will last a lifetime. If you have that extra money you've been saving up for a trip you've always wanted to go on or you've finally got a car so you can go on a road trip with your friends, plan that trip now!

Sincerely,

A Wisconsin girl who's currently sitting in sunny Orlando, Florida.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
