To The Person Who Set Me Free

To the person who taught me what it was to be free,

Despite the title, you do not necessarily deserve this recognition in a positive light. You set me free because you taught me what it felt to be trapped. You forced me to learn how to free myself, and when I thought you were done with the torment, I fell into your games again just to be forced to find my freedom once more. Eventually, I became so good at setting myself free from your grasp that the wings became relatively permanent and I learned to escape any one of your traps as if I were a recreation of the great Harry Houdini. Unlike Houdini, you never out-did me and you will never trap me for good. Thank you for teaching me to avoid that. At the end of the day I think I out did you. But maybe that was your plan all along, you always seemed to have it all figured out.

You never expected me to move on, you thought I would always be another string-like human wrapped around your finger. I'm impressed though, you gave me plenty of warning. You talked about yourself enough I probably could have figured out that it was going to happen to me. I was supposed to be impressed that such a bad ass womanizer was accttuualllyyyy coming after me. How exciting! Yeah, not really. You liked to run through girls, you liked to cheat on girls, but maybe it was all of the honesty that made me believe I would be different. At the end of the day, the honesty trapped me and I had to learn to see right through you.

Per usual, I digress, maybe it is the rainy day making me hate you a little more today, but I should get back to my point.

This isn't about you, this is about me. This is my celebration of freedom and the only thing I can thank you for is the tools you provided me with to get here. (Those tools revolving around you acting like a tool and me finally, FINALLY, taking note of that.) You set me free because seeing how you mistreat women who would do anything for you taught me that to be set free is to treat others the way you would want to be treated and to create my own happiness. When push comes to shove you, my dear, are the one who is trapped. Enjoy it, maybe eventually something or someone can set you free.

After dating jerks like you, a lot of people would fold over, they'd give up on the relationship world for a while. On the contrare, you taught me the value of treating someone the way they deserve. I was inspired to go be the best possible girlfriend I could be in any and every future relationship. I didn't "rebound" I chose to provide someone with what you could never give me, freedom. You taught me to be free by teaching me how much I don't want to be trapped. I will never trap someone the way you did me and I will inspire freedom, not prevent it.

Relationships are wonderful, whether it is romantic, platonic, or in regard to family. They teach you a lot, but sometimes what you are taught is that it is time to find what you deserve. In the end finding it in yourself to see what you deserve is the key to being set free.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
