With a new year comes new resolutions. Some people will try to save money or get more sleep. The majority of us will try to eat healthier and exercise more. It is easier said than done. Getting into a good workout and eating routine is very challenging when you are busy with other things in your life. You may have put those things on the back burner and not made them a priority.
In college, I find it extremely difficult to stick to a routine and eat healthily. Each day is different and it is hard to find time in your busy schedule. Don't let 2018 be the year where you stick to your resolution for January and then give it up. Find balance in your new schedule and life changes and they will be easier to follow.
For me, eating healthier and exercising has so many more benefits than just losing weight. Eating healthy makes my body feel better and gives me more energy. Exercising helps me relieve stress and helps me sleep better. As college students, these are major problems of ours and they need to be addressed. So start off small. Go to the gym 2 or 3 times a week in January and see how that fits into your schedule.
Try cooking at home more and incorporating more fruits and vegetables. It will make your body feel amazing. Then slowly increase the amount you work out and decrease the amount of junk food you put into your body. You will be surprised at what a difference you will feel.
With change comes relapse. It is OK if you go a week without going to the gym or eat a few bad meals in a row. It is going to happen. There is a lot of temptation in college atmospheres. It is easy to have a busy day and go get take-out rather than cook dinner. But don't let a few set-backs be the end of your resolution. Pick yourself back up and start again. Life is like an arrow. Sometimes we need to be pulled back in order to move forward.
Weight has been something I have struggled with in college. In high school, I used to play sport and actively go to the gym. College hasn't been the easiest experience for me and my fitness was not my top priority. Looking back I wish I had dedicated more time to my overall health and well-being. In 2018, I know I need to make some changes. Eating healthier and exercising more helps your body in so many ways. I didn't make this resolution in order to become skinny. I want to become strong. I want to become fit. Most of all, I want to become healthy.
