I recently wrote a “Thank You” to everyone who ever gave me a chance I didn’t deserve. As I was writing this, I realized how similar this is to our Creator and the chance he gave us to spend eternity in heaven when we really don’t deserve it. Therefore, I find it fitting to write an expression of gratitude toward The Creator of the Universe who sent His Son to die a death of replacement for those (us) who will never, ever be able to repay Him. He just gave us a chance at life. For no reason. Whattttt?
So, God created the World. He didn’t have to. He could have just been in eternity forever and been content with that. But, He wanted to show off his handiwork. And he wanted to create a masterpiece. But, He still wanted the glory for this. So, He created the land and animals to give Him glory. They just automatically do this, because of their beauty. But He didn’t stop there. He decided, “You know what? I’m gonna give some creatures a choice and a chance.” So He created humans. He made us, in His beautiful image, but decided to give us free will. We don’t have to serve Him. He still loves us. But, He gives us the opportunity to devote our lives to Him.
When He gave us humans free will, we messed it up right away. Adam & Eve decided that they weren’t okay with just being humans. They wanted to be equal with God. Sound familiar? (I’m definitely guilty of trying to run my own life and pretending that I have Almighty control). So, basically, we all became sinners. That’s right. All of us. And we don’t like to hear that word—sinners. It has an air of condemnation, guilt, and judgement assigned with it. But it’s true. We pretend we’re all “good people” but we’re just the opposite. We’re terrible. But, that doesn’t mean we have to hide in sorrow and wear black clothing and mourn. NO. God looks at us and is like, “Yeah I know you’re terrible. But that’s okay.” In the midst of His beautiful creation (us) messing everything up, He’s like, “No. I still want you to be in heaven with me.” But we can’t come in scarred and dirty, so He sent His Son to cleanse us.
I mean, just imagine this. Pretend you’re a parent and you have a child. Their friend starts disrespecting you, bullying your child, and doing everything to destroy you. But you send your child to die in their friend’s place. And then you adopt the friend. That’s absolute madness. It doesn’t make sense. But God did this for us! He wants to adopt us, into His Kingdom. He wants to live with us, even though we can never be good enough. So He sent His absolute perfect Son to die. Bloodshed was needed to sacrifice our guilt. And all’s we have to do is say, “Yes. I believe.” I believe in your Creation, I believe you’re Almighty. I believe you sent your son. And I believe you love me. Then, we just try to live our lives to glorify Him. We try to reach the point that the trees and the animals are already at. We just try to love Him in a small fraction of that which He loves us.
Therefore, I propose that God took the ultimate chance on us. I don’t get it sometimes. It’s hard to wrap our minds around a Creator like this, so loving and demanding at the same time. The thing is, Our Creator encompasses so many personalities and is so unfathomable, that our human minds will never understand everything about Him or His plan for us. The best thing we can do is believe His Truth and spend our lives living it out. So, thank you. For the Ultimate Chance.
