This is written for the one who was heartbroken this Valentine's Day, who longed for a valentine, to the hurting, the abused, the disillusioned, the disgusted. To the one no longer in love with the world. To the one feeling unworthy of love.
Did you know?
You are loved.
And nothing and nobody can take this away from you. Nothing you do can affect or define this love. It defines you.
There is One who has written and is writing us a love letter every day of our lives. The perfect lover. He loves us perfectly and unconditionally like no human can, and only His love can fulfill our aching, our longing to be loved.
His name is Jesus.
So if you watched friends and strangers carry flowers and rant about how in love they are and felt your heart crack a little inside your chest.
If you are tempted to thoughts that you'll never love or be loved,
if your childhood fairytales are wilting more and more each moment,
if you've given up on Prince Charming,
if you've grown cynical and bitter and hopeless,
know this!
This Jesus loves us more than any person ever could. The most beautiful human relationship on this planet is only a grimy reflection of God's love for us, a love that echoes down the universe, through our relationships, and into our stories.
This love is written across the pages of His word. In His sacrifice and humility. It colors His entire life on earth. Jesus loves the sick woman in the crowd, Peter who denied Him, Paul who persecuted Him, Judas who betrayed Him, selfish tax collectors and dirty fishermen, prostitutes and beggars, lepers and the demon-possessed. He loves us all.
It is scrawled across the pages of our lives, this giant love letter. Not one can take it away from you or declare you unworthy, turn you away or rescind the love. It waits for us, if we will accept it, this Love that proclaims that we are "beautifully and wonderfully made." This Love that died for us.
This letter is not confined to the pages of a book. It springs out and sings through our days. He shows His love in.. the bird singing outside the window, hot water running, car starting, family still living, coffee brewing, friends laughing, stranger smiling, moon shining, mountains rising, snow falling...
Gifts, gifts, and more gifts!!!
Candy, cards, balloons, lovers, these pale into shadows against the ancient music, the fresh spring song, the magical melody that is the Love of the Almighty God.
He sings His love song to us in sunrises and sunsets, in stars and campfires, in family and friends.
If only we who have ears will let them hear.
You are the beloved.
