College is rough, but so is not having my friends right beside me
OK, so this is written in the perspective of a community college student, but I promise that it applies to everyone. So I am having a particularly hard time right now, especially with the pressure to get good grades. This might apply to you right now, as you are searching for ways to get your grade up in the last month or so of school before summer. My dilemma is transferring when I would like to, which means grades have to be A-plus. Now, some of y'all may be thinking that community college classes are different, and therefore are easier than universities standards. Truth be told, that was a lie your mama told you. They might actually be harder, because they are preparing us for universities.
So on that note, I can establish one thing: stress. Stress is what makes the world go round, y'all, and it's taken me a long time to accept that that is the way things gotta be. If you haven't accepted it already, you will; trust me. Stress should be written into the syllabus of every class you take because no matter where you take your classes, they are all the same in regards to stress. For incoming freshmen this fall, if you see this, remember that stress and having a rough time is just part of the experience.
We all experience stress in different ways. A few of my high school senior friends explain college like I used to. They say, "Oh, I am so excited! Freshmen year is gonna be so easy?" OK, high school wasn't that long ago for me, but I do know that we all used to say something like that. We all try warning them but somehow, our lives of chilling before and after class and the freedom we have looks like so much fun, but behind the lens of Instagram, we are all struggling with separate battles. College looks a lot different from the outside in, but once you are here, everything changes; especially your outlook.
I am not trying to say that college for everyone is going to be stressful. Maybe some of you lucky folks might breeze right through it (I have yet to hear of that, but let me know if you do). It is easy to imagine life outside of high school as being the best years of your life. They might actually be, especially in college. I wasn't really sure what I wanted in high school and that led me to make some bad choices and eventually drop out of school for awhile. My success back in school and towards a university is because I had the right people around me to tell me how it really is and how I can succeed. It is, unfortunately, going to happen to someone else out there, but my hope is that articles like these help you guys know that life isn't over if you mess up or if you are a tad bit stressed about that seven-page paper coming up for your lit class. In reality, college is going great right now. Yeah, it might be a little stressful, but coming from me, welcome to some of the best years of your life.
