You forget the stress, the tests and the boys that make your mascara a mess!

To The Girls Who Are Just Like Me

This one is for the girls like me:

You’re on your iPhone or laptop reading this when you should be studying for that exam you have in a few days, but here you are looking for something that will capture not only your mind but your heart. I hope this article does just that for you.

It’s 11 o’clock on a Sunday, and your mind is running laps, but you hate running. Shopping is your only cardio. Your brain is filled with thoughts of good and bad and him. But why him? Of all the guys out there, you chose him. The one who barely gives you the time of day. Meanwhile, you’d give him the earth, the moon and all the stars. The same guy who tells you about his crush while smiling, the smile that you fall in love with every time you watched it form. Why did you have to be just another girl that looks at him with a sparkle in their eye? But no matter how many times you try to tell yourself this little crush doesn’t kill you inside, you crush your heart a little more.

It’s Monday morning and that 9 a.m. class used to be a good idea, but now you can’t keep your eyes open and your pencil point is almost as dull as your teacher’s tone of voice. Pass up your homework, blah, blah, blah, exam on Thursday, blah, blah, blah… You can’t wait to hear the professor say that’s all for today, class, but that phase seems so nonsexist as the clock ticks and ticks. The students around you all face the board with the blank stares and glassed eyes as they too fight to beat the urge to sleep. Finally, class is dismissed. Mondays are miserable and surviving them is an accomplishment in itself.

It’s Tuesday and you wish the week was already over. Sadly, wishes don’t always come true. You learned that when you wished on your birthday candles ever year and well, nothing! You have realized you can only count on yourself, not the time on a clock, not the star you see in the sky and not those magical birthday candles. You’ll be positive because that’s what Mama taught you to do when you need an outlet of hope, whether it be on an exam or job interview. So that’s what you will do, you will hold you head high and welcome every challenge this week and the following have to offer.

Wednesday, it’s only Wednesday! But hey, you’re half way there! You can do it! Besides, you like the class you have today because the teacher actually speaks English and you have a few familiar faces around you. This class makes sense, and it feels like it’s actually bringing you closer to your major. Surprisingly, you don’t mind studying for this class, you find yourself smiling at your textbook and getting good grades isn’t that hard. Not that you’ll admit it, but you kind of wish the class was longer than two hours twice a week.

You’re almost there, it's Thursday! This is the home stretch. It’s the longest day of the week because although you’re so close to Friday, you are still oh so far. Class one is done, and you gather your things and make way across campus to round two hoping you might just catch a glimpse of him. But when you don’t, do you actually mind? It wouldn’t make much of a difference, and you have come to accept that. Besides tomorrow is the last day of the working week and you can let lose, maybe someone new will catch your eye.

Friday, your second favorite “F” word after food of course. The thought of not having to wake up before the sun tomorrow morning makes you smile! Tonight there’s a party and you and you want to go but should you? If you go what will you wear and who will you go with? Do you drink? Do you even like to drink? Well here we go again with the over thinking! But hey, it’s FRIDAY! Do what makes you happy and forget the stress.

Saturday mornings aren’t really morning by the time you wake up. It's noon and you stroll to the dining hall with the girls in your favorite yoga pants and that beat up t-shirt. Pigging out at the omelet bar is a must and grabbing a slice of pizza won’t hurt. These are the moments that make college worth it. The ones where your smile is real and the laughter fills your heart with joy. You forget the stress, the tests and the boys that make your mascara a mess! Stay up late and watch movies, post funny snap chat stories and love the life that you are living. These are the moments that will last forever.

College, it can be the best four years of your life but every week will have its struggles for the girls that are just life me. Just remember, you are not alone, and every Monday has a Friday that follows. So chin up and don’t stress it on Sunday nights.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
