To the Girl Who Will Love Him Next

I hope that you love him in all the ways I wasn't able to.

I hope that you’ll appreciate him.

Appreciate his constant concerns-

He only wants the best for you.

He will always ask if you’re okay-

Value that.

Always remind him that you’re thankful-

For all he does and for all he is.

He does everything in his power to make you happy.

Look into his heavenly hazel eyes-

Get lost in their pure beauty.

He will always be staring at you-

Admiring your beauty.

I hope that he looks at you the way he used to me-

It’s breathtaking.

You’ll be the only girl to catch his attention.

Look at the way his pupils dilate when he looks at you.

He will always remind you that happens when you look at someone that you love.

I hope that you never have to question his love.

It is so genuine and pure.

Try not to worry or over exaggerate-

He hates that.

He would never cheat or lie to you.

Make sure you don't lie to him either-

Even if it's the pettiest thing in the world.

He does not deserve that.

He will do anything to never hurt you.

If you’re having a bad day-

Ask him for a hug.

Somehow it cures everything.

His smile is so contagious.

He may hate that gap in his teeth-

And have to literally practice his smile in the mirror to get it right,

But treasure that.

It’s precious.

I think that is one thing I loved the most.

Don’t complain when he wants a massage-

He works hard and deserves it.

In the moment it may suck,

But it is something you will miss being able to do when he’s no longer there.

So please-

Memorize the words to his favorite song,

Know his favorite foods and favorite types of Gatorade.

Remember how he takes his coffee.

Hold his hand

Cherish him and all the simple moments you’ll share.

Wrestle with him.

Listen to him.

Most importantly-

Pray for him.

Love all the things about him-

Especially the things he hates about himself.

Whatever happens,

DO NOT let him go.

A guy like him only comes around once in a life-time.

Love him unconditionally-

Love him in all the ways that I wasn’t able to.

Love his family and love his friends.

It will be easy- they’re amazing.

Treat his siblings like your own.

You’ll never feel like an outcast with them.

They will always make you feel like a part of the family.

He admires the fact that you can be one of them.

Learn about his past so you can understand his present.

Learn about me and all the mistakes that I made-

Learn from me so you can build the best relationship possible with him.

Don’t get angry about his past either-

He regrets some things but nobody can change what has already happened.

Communicate-

Tell him when something is bothering you.

He always wants to help resolve your issues.

If you bottle it up,

He will just get more angry.

Sometimes you need to bite your tongue.

Losing the fight is better than losing him.

Admire the way he sings in the car.

He always gets shy.

He will look out the window while singing-

He knows when you’re looking.

But I hope that you stare anyways.

And I hope it makes you smile.

He may not be the best singer-

But I hope that you fall in love with the sound of his voice-

and the way he misses most the keys and is off pitch.

Love him for all that he is and has now.

But also for all the things he has yet to be.

Grow together and rise to the top.

Don’t let him do all the work.

It takes two to make things work.

But put in the extra effort-

He deserves every ounce of it.

Please know that he will always have a piece of my heart-

I hope you'll understand exactly why.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
