While everyone is entitled to voice their own opinions, how they choose to do so illustrates their level of maturity. Following the viral circulation of photos of a young girl choosing to clean Trump’s Hollywood star, a second young girl felt disgusted by the respect shown towards Trump’s star and felt motivated to then vandalize the star and circulate photos of herself with the trashed star on the internet. While it is acceptable to disagree with presidents at times, an act of such blatant disrespect and disregard for others, as it is someone else’s job to ensure the star remains clean, is highly immature and unacceptable. Regardless of your political opinions, we are all called to demonstrate love towards others even if it may not be easy, and going out of your way to act in such a hateful manner is completely unacceptable.

Whether or not you agree with Trump’s beliefs, choices and actions, disrespecting our president in a hateful manner speaks poorly of no one but yourself. Actions such as the vandalism of Trump’s star paint you as nothing other than immature and disrespectful and negatively impact yourself more than anyone else. Regardless of your personal beliefs, Trump is and will remain your president for the next several years, and it is crucial to respect such a figure whether or not you like him or not.
