An Open Letter To The Future Me
Maddie Blank

Dear future me,

Hello there. If you're reading this now, it most likely means you are seeking some comfort from the past. Perhaps memories of what life used to be or who you used to be. Here is my hope of where you are at now in your life.

I hope you are happy. It is my sincerest wish that you have become everything you have ever dreamed of and more. That your life has become filled with cheer and love and laughter. I hope that you wake up in the morning excited at the prospect of a new day, filled with mystery and adventure. Or even a day filled with comfort and relaxation. I hope you have overcome your daily battle with yourself, and have finally learned to accept yourself for who you are and what you are not.

I hope that you are experiencing life to the fullest. That you have been doing things you have only dreamed about. Traveling, exploring new places, meeting new people, creating memories. Continuously search for moments that will teach you something new about yourself. Be adventurous. Go out for late night drives, get drunk on a Tuesday night with your best friends, pack your bags and catch a flight to anywhere. Try to learn something new every day so when you get to end of your life, you can say that you truly lived it.

I hope that you are healthy. Taking care of yourself, both mentally and physically, is a task that many choose not to make. However, I hope that you have decided to make that choice of choosing yourself, every single day. You only have one life and you may as well work hard to try to take advantage of that while you still can. You never know when the last time is the last time.

I hope that you are successful in your career. Working hard is what anyone can do and it is what makes all the difference. I hope your work motivates you, inspires you, and encourages you to be the best that you can be. Waking up in the morning, eager for what new challenges lie ahead is what will propel you forward not only in your career, but your life as well. Don't be afraid to go after what you desire. It will get you far.

I hope that you are with the love of your life. Finding your person is no easy feat, and having your person by your side can help you find happiness in the small moments. I hope that the two of you are building a life together. (Hopefully) at this point, you will have a dog! Being in a relationship takes courage and sacrifice, but most of all, the will to love each other endlessly. If you have found your great love, hold onto them, cherish them, and appreciate what you have. You never know when it can slip away from you.

I hope that you are on good terms with your family. Having a good relationship with family is incredibly important and a connection with them can fill you with contentment. People who have good relationships with their family are always happier. It is my hope that you also feel the same way.

I hope you continue your love of reading. Let it enchant you, let it fill your mind with ideas and wonder. Books are the universe's way of giving advice from strangers. There is so much to learn from just reading. Never let anything get in the way of that.

Most of all, I hope you never have to read this letter. My goal for you is to be so in love with life that you never look back on all the things that led you to doubt who you are. Never, ever apologize for you. You are extraordinary. You are loved. You are intelligent. You are beautiful. I hope you never forget those things. Love yourself first, and all else will follow.

Sincerely,

The past you

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
