To The Friends That Left Me Behind

People change but memories don't.

I wish that I could have gotten a warning. A goodbye. Or even something of that nature. But instead, it was like you were there one day and gone the next.

Did I do something wrong? For a while, I thought I did. But I've finally realized that people just change over time and sometimes, friendships outgrow each other. I used to be mad about it and I would imagine reaching out to you and asking if there was something I did that made you give up on our friendship. Maybe I did reach out... but after a couple of those "oh, I've been so busy" excuses, I realized that the friendship we had was never going to be the same.

I'm not mad anymore. I still get upset about it, especially when people ask me why we don't talk or hang out anymore and the only answer I have is, "I don't know," but anger isn't the emotion I feel.

Instead, I'm thankful for the times and memories that we had when we were friends. The laughs in classes, the inside jokes, copying each other's homework, the car rides, and all of the times you looked out for me when I was upset are things I will never forget. You were an important part of my life and you influenced me into being who I am now and for that, I thank you.

I truly did think that we were going to be friends for a lot longer than we were. We made plans for all sorts of things, like graduation day and going out to breakfast. But those things have now passed and while I'm sad that they didn't happen, I understand.

Even though we aren't close anymore, I still look to see how you're doing. I am proud of you and all of your successes. When I see that you're down, just know that I'm supporting you from the sidelines and I always will be because at one point, you were one of my best friends.

Although I'll have no way of knowing, I wonder if you'll read this. Maybe our paths will cross again one day and we will just pick up where we left off, but if not, thank you for being my friend.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
