To The Fair-Weather Fans Of Miley Cyrus

When I was in middle school I watched Hannah Montana religiously. I was so obsessed with everything Miley did that keeping up with her life started to become something I looked forward to. She was a role model for me, and with each stage she went through I never once questioned what kind of person she was.

There was a turning point for Miley that I think she felt lost in. I don't know that for a fact-and I can't imagine someone trying to tell me at some point in my life I was lost when I actually wasn't..but I think Miley needed a change. I think she changed herself completely to see if that was actually what would make her happy.

The thing is, when she made this change- (cut off her hair, dyed it blonde, came out with songs about drugs and twerking--etc) all of you fair weather fans suddenly got quiet. Your once perfect role model was struggling trying to find herself, and many of you weren't there to support her. You critiqued her, belittled her, body shamed her, called her ugly/talent-less and any other spiteful thing you could think of to try and get her to go back to her old ways.

People didn't care if her being this way, wearing what she wanted to, talking how she wanted, singing what she wanted-made her happy. You were just disgusted that how she was when she was 11 wasn't the same as an adult in her twenties. I wasn't the same person as Miley-never at any point in my life were Miley and I similar-but I respected her.

I gave her so much credit for getting up on stage after being ripped to shreds for sticking a foam finger in between her legs. People weren't offended they saw this type of behavior, they were crushed at who was doing it. Immediately she was called talent-less for doing something genuinely smart. If you didn't get to watch that performance that night (like myself) you heard about it the next day. I actually was told about it by my college professor who called her a slut in front of our whole class. That video of her performance went viral. Every radio, talk show, news channel, and family made it the conversation to have. You may have called her talent less for that, but I just called her intelligent.

So fast forward years later, and the hair grows out, she wears things more conservative now, she sings songs like Malibu and suddenly she's everyone's role model again. There are currently articles being written about how proud people are of her for coming out of this slump and being someone young kids can look up to.

(Not because she's happy, kind, or just a good person) but because she is closer to the girl she was when she was on Hannah Montana and less like the girl who danced with midgets and wanted to take a line in the bathroom.

The thing is, from the time Miley was on Hannah Montana to now, she was always a good person. You never saw articles or videos written about her being mean to fans and other celebrities bashing her for being a shitty person. Miley (from the time she was young and through the "we can't stop" era) was always a GOOD PERSON. She made Happy Hippie Foundation for the homeless just because! She found a homeless guy on the street and let him speak in place for her at the music awards. She's an idol to so many people, not because she grew her hair out and makes videos of her with a shirt that covers a lot of her skin and nothing but sweet smiles and no drugs in sight..but because she has a kind heart. Her image shouldn't alter whether or not people feel she's a decent human being.

You can make all the articles you want saying how proud you are of Miley for the transition she's made, but it only proves that you know nothing about her. She can change everything about her-from her songs to her look, but she never once changed her heart.

Fair-weather fans come and go, but Miley Cyrus has always stayed.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
