When I started thinking about summer and how I would adjust from classes all year, practice, sorority commitments, club commitments, and having time to hang out with friends to then being home for two months "doing nothing" I thought there would be all the time in the world and I was imagining myself bored every day. However, after it turns out after your freshman year, your summers begin to get a little more filled and somewhat chaotic (at least that is what I am experiencing). You have to start earning more money, maybe taking classes over the summer, as well as having more responsibility at home or at your workplace. As I am scheduling homework due dates, work hours for every day and practice weekends that I will be back at school, I seem to be hearing from others just how bored they are, but I'm not sure why? So if you are someone who keeps saying they're bored, this one's for you!
Do you remember those moments while up at school when you couldn't spend those few extra dollars on a luxury you wanted because you didn't have the spare cash? So something that you could do this summer to prevent that from happening is 1) don't get as many luxuries while at home or 2) spend more time making money by asking for more hours at work and putting in some extra time or pick up easy lawn care or babysitting jobs on the weekend for quick money.
A less popular option but equally time-consuming solution is that you can use your boredom and free time to do that spring cleaning a few months late. Or do what I end up doing while cleaning and find yourself reminiscing over old memories you discover in the far back corner of your closet in an old box under old clothes you stored away.
Maybe none of these sounds like something you would use to fill your long hours of boredom, but perhaps they sparked other ideas into your head. The point I want to get across is even if you aren't with your closest friends because they live miles and miles away, you can still fill your time and keep yourself busy in news ways. Stop saying you're bored and start being proactive.
