Anyone who knows me would agree that I am a cautious person. I tend to play things safe, deliberate a lot before making a decision and don't do anything spur-of-the-moment. I like to have plans set in place before doing anything.
Recently, however, I made a pretty spontaneous decision; I decided to get a cartilage piercing in my ear while working at a tattoo festival. While it was something I half-seriously thought of a couple times, I didn't ever think I would go through with it. When I was at the festival, though, I decided to just go for it and do something spontaneous for once. I don't regret making this decision though, and I am really happy with how it turned out.
While something like getting a piercing out of nowhere may not seem like a big deal to some people, it was to me. Me, the person who hates not having a plan and hates doing something out-of-the-blue, had done just that. More surprisingly, it didn't turn out bad at all. Making a decision without careful, thoughtful consideration didn't turn out to be nearly as bad as I thought it would.
While deeply thinking about and weighing options is a great thing to do, it doesn't need to be done with every decision. I learned it can actually be fun to do something totally unexpected and unplanned. Nothing is wrong with being cautious, but it's also freeing to let loose once in a while and do something spontaneous.
If you are also someone who tends to be cautious and someone who cannot go with the flow, don't be afraid to switch up once in a while and make a decision with little thinking. This decision doesn't have to be something major and life-altering; it can be as simple as going for a drive without a set destination. Let yourself be free of worry sometimes, and let yourself make a choice without being bound by your thoughts.
