To My Parents, I Thank You
Finda

To my parents,

Thank you, for all the times you gave me a meal after being exhausted from working all day. Thank you for working all day to give me a meal. For going to all my dance shows and sitting through three hours of it when you would only see me for three minutes. Thank you for taking me to all of my dance classes. For coming to all my plays when I was the lead or even when I only had one line. When I stayed home sick when I was little and you took off work so you could make sure I was okay all day and went out of your way to make me feel better. For all the times you stayed up so I could have fun with my friends even though you were exhausted from working all day and you had to wake up early the next morning. For all the doctors appointments you took me to when I was sick and sitting in the waiting room for hours. For all the times you saved my artwork from elementary school and told me it was beautiful even if it was just macaroni and glitter glued to construction paper. For every Christmas present under the tree, all the eggs you hid in the backyard on Easter, every Thanksgiving meal, every Fourth of July firework, and every costume for Halloween you bought me. Thank you for giving me my sister no matter how many times I complain about her; she is the best thing that has ever happened to me. To my mom, thank you for being my best friend when I felt like I didn't have one. To my dad, thank you for reminding me to get off my ass. Also, thank you for giving us our dog when you didn't want one but you knew it would make us happy, even though he pees in your room and gets in the kitchen garbage. You often remind yourselves of what you haven't done for my sister and I when you've really given us everything. There is no way I could ever repay what you have done for us. But thank you for everything. (Also, thanks for making it clear that I'm the favorite child.)

Love,

L e x

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
