I Couldn't Be More Grateful That My Parents Are Celebrating 31 Years Of Marriage

Some people don't have a good set of role models to show what real love is, but luckily I do.

Mom and Dad,

Today is your special day, maybe something you didn't think would ever come when you were growing up and trying to find love. You two are lucky enough to call each other man and wife after 31 long years of marriage and to that, I applaud you. You have both taught me meaningful lessons throughout my life and the biggest one is love.

The unconditional love you have for both my siblings and I but also the love you two share. Together and not apart you have spent more than half of your lives with each other and even if you used to fight or used to have issues those are all gone and passed. Today I see a happy couple supporting each other as they should and that is not something many people my age are able to say.

Dad, you have taught me to fight for what I want and that I need to worry about myself first. When the time comes I will always be your little girl but hope to find a man as great as you are to mom.

Mom, you have taught me that searching for the right human all of the time isn't the way to go, wait and your true love will come. You even said that you made dad wait a while until anything really happened and that is how you knew that he was the one. He loved your daughter unconditionally from the beginning and you loved him and his family just the same. This family you two have built for us may not be perfect and it may not always get along but we are one and we are here all because of you two.

I am personally still trying to understand what love is but maybe it's actually rather simple. Maybe it's going to his baseball games despite not understanding the sport, or going to dinner with her family even if you aren't always a fan of that one person.

Together you have made sacrifices for the other and that to me is what true love is. Being there through everything, from the birth of your children and the loss of a loved one. Through financial struggles, new homes, travel, pets, family feuds and so so so much more.

I hope the two of you understand just how grateful I am to have you in my life as my parents. I wouldn't have it any other way and this life wouldn't have been possible if I didn't have two headstrong, lovers to help make it the way it is.

You have both helped me grow as a human, given me many opportunities to thrive, given me culture and the reality of the world around me. So, again. Thank you for teaching me what love is and what love means and most importantly thank you both for being in my life.

Without you I obviously wouldn't be here. Thank you for making this house we live in feel like a home.

I love you both, happy 31st anniversary.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
