To My Other Mom,

I want to start off by saying Happy Birthday. I want to thank you for always being there0. I have two other moms and they love me I know and other people who I view as moms, but this letter is meant specifically for you.

Ever since I began dating your son, you have welcomed me with open arms. I know it was a shock for Johnny to find someone who is eleven years younger than him, but age does not matter. I know you were worried at first, but I know over time you realized I was not going anywhere. I am not going to go anywhere. I love your son with all my heart and we have a handsome baby boy who I adore as well.

We became close, the more we got to know each other. I am thankful to have you in my life. You are always there, and I know I can talk to you whenever I need to. I love it when you come over to hang out, drink coffee and watch movies or television shows. We both can talk for hours if we want to, and still have something to say to one another. You make me feel appreciated and loved. You are amazing.

We met around eight years ago, and man has time flown by. I remember the first time we met. It was at your house. Johnny invited me to come over there and play pool. He burped at some point during the night and you exclaimed, “John Patrick! “He quickly responded with, “What, Mom, she’s heard me burp before. “I laughed right away.

Soon after that, as I got to know you more, I rode to church with you. I would also go to karaoke with you at the VFW.I moved shortly after that, but I stayed in touch. Johnny and I dealt with a long-distance relationship for a while.

I was so shocked, and at the same time excited when he moved to be with me in Jacksonville and then asked me to marry him. I remember calling you and you said, “I would have made him get down on one knee before saying yes.”

After that, I began calling you mom. You have always treated me like your daughter and I am thankful for that. We have had several conversations and went shopping together and many other things. I have always felt the love you have for me and I appreciate that. I may not always thank you, but I want you to know, you are an amazing mom and I am so glad to have you as a mother in law.

You have helped me through challenging times in my life, and I know you will continue to be there to support me along the way. When Johnny got hurt and we did not know if he was going to make it, you rode with me to the hospital.

You rode with us when we had Johnathon.

You watch the dogs and babysit so Johnny and I can have a date night.

You do so much for us, and I want you to know it does not go unnoticed. Thank you for always being there and being someone, I can turn to. Most of all, thank you for being my Mom.

Love,

Andrea

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
