To My Maternal Great Grandmother,

I wish we could have met, even just for a brief moment. I wish I knew what you sounded like when you laughed or when you talked. I wish I knew the little things you did that made you, you. I wish I knew what it felt like to get a hug from you. I wish I had more than just pictures to go by to know what you looked like because I get told that sometimes I look a lot like you when I smile or turn and look at someone a certain way.

I wonder what we would have talked about and shared with each other. I wonder what kind of stories you could have told me about my aunts, my uncle, my mom, my grandmother, or Pap-Pap. I wonder how similar we are or how different. I wonder what I could have learned from you.

Most of all, I wish that you could have been here to see me grow up, even if it was just a few years. I know that you're watching over me with Pap-Pap and I hope that he has told you all about me. I'm thankful that I have my grandmother, aunts and my mom to tell me stories about you. I'm thankful that I have the traditions that my grandmother passed down to me that were also passed down to her from you because it makes me feel like I have or know some part of you. Continue watching over me and I look forward to the day that we get to officially meet.
