To my long-distance best friend:
I miss you so much. I miss being just minutes away from you at all times, and being able to meet up for lunch or coffee or coming over on a whim and spending all day together. But even though we aren’t close in terms of location anymore, I know that our friendship will remain close always.
Thank you for...
...asking me how my day was, and telling me about yours.
...keeping an interest in the things I do, even though they may seem irrelevant.
...being able to detect my mood just by the way I formulate a text.
...talking through tough decisions with me.
...encouraging me to pursue whatever it is I’m contemplating.
...never letting the distance change our bond.
These small actions, although seemingly ordinary, mean the world to me. Even though you may not be here, I know that I can rely on you at any time of the day, and you’ll be there with me as I run around on my good days and stumble through the tough ones. Know that I’m there with you too.
I always look forward to the times when we’ll be reunited, to the breakfasts or movie nights or sleepovers we will get to spend together, when it will almost feel like old times again. I know that we probably won’t return to how it used to be any time soon...and that’s no one’s fault. But I take great comfort in knowing that no matter what changes come our way, our friendship will not be one of them.
