To My Friends Still In High School

My advice to my friends just starting their senior year of high school.

To my friends who are still living it up in high school I have a few words of wisdom for your senior year. You don't have to take these to heart but these are just some things I wish someone would have told me before I started my final year of high school.

Participate in everything, don't skip that extra pep rally just because you can. These are going to be some of the moments you look back on and realize how much fun you were having. It's the last year so you might as well have a hand in every activity you are told you can do and make your presence known. Chances are you probably aren't going to see any of these people after graduation so who cares if you look like a fool.

Don't stress about college decisions. If you applied to schools, awesome, if you didn't that's cool too. You will do something after graduation whether it's attending a four year university, going to community college, going into the military, or going straight into the workforce. There is a plan for you after graduation even if you aren't sure what it is yet.

Do not be afraid to form new relationships. That person you've had a crush on since freshman year? Go for it because after graduation day you might never see or talk to them again until one random day 10 years from now when you pass each other in the grocery store. That girl you've always thought was nice? Make friends with her because it could be a friend you take with you through college and beyond. The best relationships and friendships happen unexpectedly and at the weirdest times.

Get good grades. Don't think that just because you are a senior and you have that college acceptance letter that you can automatically slack off. Colleges will not hesitate to take back their offer for you to attend their school if you aren't keeping up your grades. Don't let anyone tell you grades do not matter because they do. A perfect GPA is an accomplishment to be proud of so don't let anyone take it away from you.

Have confidence because you are the only person that can decide your future. You might not know exactly what you are doing yet, but keep your head high and don't let anyone dictate your actions. I know how it feels to have everyone telling you what you should do but you are the only one who can decide what you are going to do.

I know it seems like graduation is a long ways away but trust me, senior year flies by and you will regret it if you don't take chances and have fun. It's your final year before you enter the world of adulthood and making your own choices without anyone limiting your options. Enjoy this year because I promise, it's the best year of your life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
