To My Freshman Year Roomies

From strangers to best friends in nine months.

Prior to college, you’ve probably heard roommate stories from one extreme to another: “My freshman roommate ended up being my bridesmaid!” or “I quickly switched rooms two weeks later because my roommate turned out to be a psychopath.” I look back on how insanely anxious I was to be living with random girls I have never met before in my life. But fortunately enough, I had been blessed with the loveliest group of ladies I could have ever imagined. Right off the bat from move in day the bond developed so naturally. The relationship I have made being stuck with three girls in a college dorm room is beyond me. It seems like yesterday we were awkwardly messaging each other on Facebook attempting to get to know one another. But here we are today, nine months later and minimal time left of freshman year, with the sweetest of friendships.

I owe you girls the greatest thank you. Thank you for days filled with endless laughter. Thank you for being my go-to people on the days that my emotions got the best of me. Thank you for bringing positivity into my life daily. Thank you for opening up and filling me in with every detail I have missed in the past 18 years of your lives. Thank you for showing me your perspective instead of always conforming with mine. Thank you for the nights you’ve had to be the “mom.” Thank you for trusting me and telling me what goes through your head no matter how TMI it is. Thank you for giving me three more closets to choose clothes from. But most importantly, thank you for doing college with me. There are times when school work can pile up, stress levels boil and life gets messy, but thankfully you girls have made it all so much easier. You’ve shed an abundance of light into my life. I find it beautiful how quickly people can become the best of friends after knowing each other for just under a year. That’s when you know you’ve picked the right freshman roomies. So thank you for everything; this one is for you girlies!

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
