Dear Family,
The holidays are all about giving, and I do not know how you can give me any more. This is the time of year where we really reflect on the year we have all had and what we are all thankful for. Though this is cheesy, I really am thankful for you. It does not matter if you are a grandparent, my mom or dad, brother or sister, an aunt or uncle, or a cousin. We are all family.
The holidays are a beautiful time filled with all of us reuniting and Christmas cheer is running rampant throughout whatever family member’s house we are at this time. With these constant hugs and kisses I need to enter this plea: let's keep the tears to a minimum.
There is nothing wrong with tears when it comes to reuniting with family we have not seen in a while, but during the holidays we cannot become distracted. It is always a successful holiday when no one is sad and crying. We need to surround ourselves with the people we love and just be happy and enjoy each other's presence and presents.
We focus so much on the material part of Christmas. But as a member of this family, I want to tell you all how much that does not mean to me. As cheesy as this sounds, my favorite part of Christmas is sitting around the table with the family that I love. Even though I earlier talked about how we should try not to cry over something stupid or yell at each other about politics, I cannot imagine Christmas without it.
That is what makes each family unique. It is about how each family, especially ours has its little quirks. We fight, but we love each other. Some of us get a little too drunk on Christmas Day and some of us get a little too annoyed with the ones who get a little too drunk on Christmas Day. But we still love each other.
On this Christmas, as we all see each other after either a long time apart or just a few days, it will be different from the house next door. That is why we claim we are the most fun family in the world, even though our neighbors say the same exact thing. Because no matter how many disagreements we get in or how many times someone burns the Christmas dinner, I love you guys and I love spending time with you. That is what Christmas is all about.
