I have so much to thank my grandmother for.

As I compose this article watching the timeless classic The Sound of Music, I can't help but think solely of my grandmother. She truly emulates the grace and timeless charm of Julie Andrews, which I strive to resemble day in and day out. Not only has my grandma introduced me to this cinema delicacy, but she has also assisted me with so many life endeavors.

I have so much to thank my grandmother for

First of all, she has taken her own time to teach me how to sew. Now, for all you seamstresses out there, you know this skill does not develop overnight. When I was ten, my grandma began showing me the sewing basics that I utilized during my nine years of 4-H and beyond. I am so grateful for all the time I was able to spend with her, bonding over our shared love of sewing. Reflecting back, I appreciate her patience and kind soul more than ever.

My grandma has also given me a pristine ladylike example to follow. As long as I can remember, my grandma has sat with such poise and carried herself in a polite manner. While in my 4-H interviews and even recently in interviews with company representatives, I have remembered to sit up straight, maintain clean nails, and cross my ankles. These manners and so much more have given me the confidence to carry myself as a young professional.

I also truly admire her wonderful trust in God. My grandma has an enduring faith that she will carry with her forever. Praying with her at the dinner table and attending church with her has given me the strength and encouragement to grow in my faith as a college student. I cherish the time spent praying with her and discussing God. More than anything, my grandma has shown me the way to worship God and develop into the Christian lady that I am today.

Finally, my grandma has shown me how to be a sweet and kind human being. She has taught me that no matter the circumstances, I should always treat others with care and kindness. This trait of hers has taken me the longest to really appreciate.

As I have grown older, I've come to realize how considerate my grandmother is to everyone around her. She is always willing to assist others in need and volunteers her time to any cause. I adore her wonderful smile and contagious laugh that makes her who she is.

My grandma has inspired me in so many ways and I hope to make her proud of every endeavor of my life. Nonetheless, my grandmother deserves a huge 'thank you' along with so much more. I am not sure where I would be without her helpful assistance and everlasting love.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
