To the Berkeley Middle College Class of 2018,

We did it! Two years of grueling dual credit work has finally paid off. This Thursday we will walk across that stage and receive our well-deserved diplomas. We have been through so much as a class, from adjusting to a very non-traditional high school to making it our home.

Most of us came to BMC not knowing many people, if we knew anyone at all. It was like having to start high school all over again; new building, new teachers, and new classmates. It's scary having to adjust to new surroundings and nobody really likes change, but we made it through together. We bonded over those trials that were thrown our way.

And those trials were totally worth it. The harder classes helped us become more attentive learners and showed us what college is going to be like. They truly helped prepare us for our future and find what we want to do with our lives.

I am honored to have been able to experience this with all of you. The Middle College is a special place for special people and these past two years have been incredible. I will miss seeing you all in class, in the hallways, and in the office, so I have some final thank yous.

To my teachers and professors: thank you for helping learn and excel, and thank you for pushing me to do my best. Thank you for supporting my classmates and me, and making sure that we were doing our best. Know that you have made a lasting impression on me that I will cherish always.

To my friends: thank you for being there for me and for supporting me. Thank you for helping me in classes and venting when we needed to. Thank you for the laughs and the tears and all the wonderful times we have had together. I hope I was able to give that to you as well and that we will cross paths again.

And to all those in my class: I wish you much success and happiness in your future endeavors. I hope you find your place in the world and are able to make the changes you want to see in it.

Congratulations, again, Class of 2018 and good luck as you embark on the next chapter.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
