A while ago, my parents told me that I was going to have another sister, but they were going to have to go to China for 2 weeks to get her. I was confused and nervous for this new adventure in our lives and didn't know what we were in store for. I wasn't ready for someone new to take the spotlight away from me and had already developed some jealousy because of it. However, the decision to adopt you was one of the best decisions my parents could have made for our family. It truly opened our eyes to love others for who they are and to be open to the new experiences that may come about in our lives.
I can remember the day you came into our house so clearly because of how excited I was to show you who was the boss. You were just a baby so everyone who was over started to hold you in their arms and give you all the hugs you can imagine. I even sneaked a few hugs in there as well. I knew that you looked different than me, but I still knew that you were the newest addition to the family. Being the older sister in the family, I wanted to make you happy, but this wasn't going to be easy for me.
As always, time went so fast after you were adopted into our family. We started going on more vacations together and even growing deeper in your heritage by going to special events. I could tell that you were shy when you met a lot of people, maybe even feeling out of place sometimes. It was not until you were quite a bit older when you broke out of your shell because you were starting to get more involved in things. It's amazing how you immersed yourself into sports and the arts by just being naturally talented at them, something that never came quick to me. I was for sure a bit jealous of you, but proud of everything you ended up accomplishing.
Whenever we go shopping together, I always find myself laughing over some silly thing both of us did. People even comment on how good of friends we seem, not even considering you're my sister. Honestly, that's one of my favorite parts of being your sister because I can show the world how proud I am of you. I always joke with you about school and sometimes even compare the grades we get, but I mean it when I say you are really smart and dedicated. Not many people have the drive and patience in their studies and I know this will help you in the long run.
Without you, I wouldn't be as open to new things and as confident in how well people will like me. Believe it or not, I had to do a few things for you to open up to me. I know that we haven't always been the closest, but I'm glad that you're more than just my sister now. You're my best friend. You're going to do great things in this world, I have no doubt about it.
