To my not-so-little brother,

I am so, so excited for you to begin this next chapter, and I am bursting with pride for all you have accomplished these first 18 years of your life. Your school is so, so lucky to have you. Take pride in how far you've come, and let it accelerate you into your near future: college. I know you're fine all on your own, but I have some advice for you, advice I wish someone had given me as I started school away from home not too long ago.

You are an altogether wonderful human: socialize! Anyone would be lucky to have a person like you in their life. But when it comes to the conquest of making new friends, above all, be yourself. It's important to portray yourself as the fun, happy guy I know you are, but it's more important to be your true self. Don't be afraid to open up to others, but stay true to your values. They will take you far in life.

You are incredibly intelligent: use it! Grades matter in college, more than you know. None of this "C's get degrees" BS you hear all the time. Always do your best, and keep your schoolwork and studying a priority. Your massive academic success in high school is sure to translate over to college, as long as you keep up that work ethic that everyone admires you for.

You are in the same boat as everyone else: relax! It's important to allow things to happen organically. It's so easy to fall into the trap mindset of comparing your life to others, and that's completely unnecessary. Live a life that's entirely your own, and I swear that you'll find yourself happy at this new and unfamiliar place. Don't worry, God's got your back. He loves you more than you know, and He will provide you with things that will set you up for your promising future as an adult in this world.

You have so much left to experience in this world: be active! Go to all the sporting events you can, sign up for clubs that interest you, actually attend school dances, etc. New passions and new people can be found in the craziest of places. Take it all in; these four years will fly by faster than you can even imagine.

You were raised and are loved by people who would do absolutely anything in this world for you: know that! You have the greatest support system behind you, and we will be there for whatever your college journey brings. Not only that, but we'll be rooting for you every step of the way. We believe in you!

On a side note, please remember that cleanliness is next to Godliness! You live in a 10x10 square foot space, listen to me when I say that it is not difficult to keep it clean, with minimal effort. Never forget, I am only a FaceTime call away. I will always be one of your biggest fans, and that's a promise. I miss you endlessly already. 'Til I get to see you again, home.

I love you forever,

Your big sister

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
