I write to my fellow geeks in the world to say something that has been ignored for a long time.
We have become spoiled and snooty in our geeky ways.
We live in a time where almost all of what we loved as kids is being brought to life in one way or another. We've watched superheroes from Marvel and DC Universe being brought to life.
We finally have a new "Star Wars" movie, which kick-started the franchise for the next generation, and we now even have legitimate comic adaptions for TV shows.
Basically, we live in Nerdvana and it is beautiful.
So why do so many of us act so spoiled when we live in a time that we've always dreamed of?
It started with The Marvel Universe.
The films were so well done that even if we nitpicked the flaws of a couple of the films, we really didn't complain too loud. We were just happy that Marvel Universe films were being made at all.
Then Marvel Universe made new "X-Men" movies to softly reboot the terrible films they had out previously, and these new films were done well enough to make us forget the hard times X-men faced.
Warner Brothers got into the game by releasing "Man of Steel," the first Superman movie to grace the big screen in 7 years.
Geeks turned their noses up at it, saying that 'Man of Steel' was too violent, not a deep enough story, Superman killed the bad guy, too many people died when two super humans had an all out brawl.
These are just some of the comments I have heard about the DC universe two films in.
Get over it, look at what you're saying.
If the movie had added more of a deeper story, then some geeks would be complaining that there wasn't enough action.
If the movie was being critiqued as being too violent, then the reality is that it's actually no more violent than what's actually in the comics. In movies the characters are just actually punching each other instead of having "pow!" and "bam!" pop up.
If some people have a problem with Superman killing Zod, then I say that Superman has been forced to do so in the comics and in the animated universe. Not one of us complained, then.
As for innocent people dying, we all say that we want these movies to be as realistic as possible, so why would everything be hunky-dory when Superman and an evil, twisted Superman battle in the city?
The point I'm trying to make is to get out of our own way guys.
I enjoyed 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' because it was a solid action superhero movie that opened a doorway to a whole universe for them to explore even if it did have some flaws. But you know what, Marvel movies still has their flaws, and so does every other franchise out there.
So I want to finish just by saying this. Stop complaining about the movies and just sit back and enjoy them.
Appreciate the fact that they are being made, and that nobody is forcing you to watch them at all.
" Suicide Squad" comes out next week and it looks like a fun and promising addition to a growing universe.
We should look at it like that and not as something to potentially complain about when we see Jared Leto's portrayal of the Joker.
Just be happy we have a Joker at all and be happy to be alive in such an amazing cinematic time.
