Have you been dying to get out of your house and go anywhere? Literally anywhere?
I am so there with you. It has been six weeks since I tested positive for COVID-19 and I want nothing more than to leave the house & the room I had to isolate myself in for two weeks and then just waste time in for the four after that.
I'm finally getting out of my hometown for the first time since I had to come home when I got the virus. I'm going camping for the first time. If that's your speed, I'd definitely try that, but that's not what this is about.
When I was in isolation I obviously wanted to be anywhere but trapped in those four walls. I needed to escape. I walked the streets of Stars Hollow, flew all across the country bagging murderers with the Behavioral Analysis Unit, and learned to fight monsters at Camp Half-Blood. While that was all fun, transporting, and time-consuming, I was still literally just laying in bed.
Something else I did while laying in bed, though, helped me feel like maybe I wasn't there
First I'd sit by my open window. The feeling of the wind on my skin and breathing in the fresh air was almost torture after being inside for so long. Then I would pull up Google Earth.
I went all over the globe. First I walked the streets of Athens, Ohio, my college town I was ripped away from in the spring semester first for the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, and then again when I actually caught the virus. Then to my grandparents' tiny hometown of Baranello, Italy, where I marveled at how quaint and adorable the town is.
I saw the Grand Canyon, the Eiffel Tower, Stonehenge, the Sagrada Familia (hello, old friend,) the Taj Mahal, Big Ben, and the White Cliffs of Dover. It was actually pretty sick getting to explore these iconic landmarks while feeling the breeze, the sun, and the outside air swirling around me.
It might feel stupid, but if you're bored and you really don't have anything else to do, it may not hurt to try it!
Especially if you're in isolation for COVID-19. You've got a lot of time on your hands, and this might be something fun for you to do too!
