Staring at a blank screen is part of my daily routine. Anyone else have the same problem? Well, I suffer from that. There's just way too many things going on in my life for me to actually take one thing more seriously than the others.
And that problem is the word procrastination. Yep, the 15-letter word of doom. Leaving everything off to the last minute.
From a young age, my favorite word was "tomorrow." I sang the musical song "tomorrow." I repeated the word "tomorrow" frequently because I believed in leaving everything for tomorrow. I simply believed that tomorrow was a new day and that the new day should bring new adventures, and finishing things the day of would be merely boring. I believed in sharing tomorrow with today's adventures.
One example: writer's block.
It's that scary thing of a monster when you are tempted to write something, but yet nothing flows out of your mind. Every single word seemed wrong, and Google was unhelpful. Brainstorming also seemed off, because there was just so many ideas to choose from. And because of the difficulties of writer's block, I wanted to shut out the dark monster. I began to turn away from thinking, and go into leisure mode. YouTube videos, movies, social media, whatever that can turn my head can distract me for hours.
Another example: lack of a social life, or rather you think you don't have one.
I, for one, overthink a lot.
Because of overthinking, I try to balance my social life with my academics. But those efforts turn out to be failures. From those sort of actions, the balance between those activities gets thrown into disarray. Academics either get in the way too much or hanging with friends seem more like a chore than a leisure. The emotional balance gets automatically destroyed because of procrastination. Procrastinating can randomly just throw off priorities and make you confused as to what your goals are. So, to all those procrastinators out there, stop before it's too late. You will fall out of hand.
I wrote this article just to remind you that there is still hope. Procrastination can drag you deeply, yes, but it won't kill you. Once you realize it, crawl out of that dark abyss and breathe in the fresh, cold air, because I believe in you.
Make a schedule and set some deadlines, because you will still be good people who knows how to get their priorities straight!
