To All The Boys I've Loved Before is a new Netflix movie based on the novel by Jenny Han. Over the last few weeks, it's taken the world by storm. This movie was supposedly so phenomenal that I just had to see why it was so special just for myself.
For those of you who don't know, the movie revolves around Lara Jean Covey and the five letters she had written to boys she has loved. Somehow the letters get mailed, and Lara Jean has to deal with learning that her crush, who happens to be her sister's ex, with finding out.
That's when Lara Jean and Peter, one of the letter recipients, decide to fake date. He wants to make his ex-jealous, and she doesn't want the one boy she actually loves to find out. However, along the way, they fall for each other.
Naturally, when I first watched it, I thought it was an adorable teen romance. Boy and girl pretend to have feelings for each other. Then by some trick of fate, they actually do fall in love. It's a cute movie for a rainy day.
I couldn't wait to watch this movie again. I wanted to show my friends at school something that we could bond over. It's one of those movies you watch with your best friends and laugh with.
Everyone has been falling in love with the main characters. I do have to say, it's hard not to. He seems just as adorable in real life as he was in the movie. Some days, it looks like he has taken the world by storm more than the movie.
Now as I said before, I had to see why this movie was so special. And I think I found out why. It all has to do with the type of audience it catches.
Normally when the girls want to watch a movie at school, the guys will insist on watching as well. When its a "chick-flick" that are picked, we hear nothing but disgruntled voices. Even at some points comments thrown out during the movie about how bad it is.
However, when they watched this one with us, we didn't get those usual comments. Yes, at the beginning they grumbled about another rom-com, and how this was going to be predictable. And maybe they had to deal with the girls falling even more in love with Peter Kavinsky, but they were real troopers.
They sat through the entire movie with minimal comments. At the end of the movie, they said how they actually enjoyed it and would watch the second one if it was made. All of the girls were floored.
So, here is the proof that this movie is so special. The movie was cute, it was funny, and for once the male lead was actually nice and not portrayed as a stupid jock. Here's to hoping another one is made, so we can get the guys to watch another movie without complaining about it.
