It takes less than a second. One moment you're sitting there laughing and the next you find yourself falling, tumbling down far away into oblivion. In a single instant you go from knowing everything about a person from their fears to their aspirations to the way they laugh and the very thing that gets on their nerves, then suddenly it's as if you never knew them. It's that friend that disappears.
To My Friend Who Disappeared,
It's strange to think not that long ago we referred to each other as friends. At a time you knew me and I knew you, now walking past each other feels impossible. Not a single glance, nor a single word was spoken. No longer passing notes or laughing at each other's jokes. It's as if we have become strangers.
How can one moment you play such a huge role in my life that it is unbelievable to not picture you as a part of my future, to now it is impossible to see you there at all? It's as if the time we spent together has been degraded to nothing short of a memory. A memory with a short inkling of that being only a short segment of one's life.
The humor behind this is you're not the first friend to disappear. Many before you have and it is most likely that many after you will, as well. Popping up for a short time only to bond over commonalities and differences. Yet, it seems that friendships do not always last.
At a time everything seems to be fine, only to later to discover it all to be a mere facade. A friendship lost to the deep unknowns. The reasons for the tie to break is still unknown.
Perhaps it was meant to be that you played a role in that part of my life. Perhaps it was meant to be a short meeting. Perhaps it was not meant to last.
While this friendship may appear to be long over, it may not necessarily be true. Just because the ties were broken, doesn't mean they must stay lost. For fate decides that, too.
Sincerely,
An Old Friend
