Whilst running through TSA this week, I had the wonderful privilege of speaking with the hilarious T.J. Miller.
You may know his shining face from Deadpool where he played Deadpool’s bestie Weasel. You can also hear the comedian lend his voice to animated features such as Disney’s Big Hero 6, and Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon. Currently, Miller stars in the HBO comedy Silicon Valley. If you are totally interested in what else you may have seen him in, you can check that out here(you're welcome).
This December, you’ll see him in the star-studded holiday comedy Office Christmas Party.
One of the main things Miller asserted about this new film was that:
“Right now we need sort of something to go laugh at and that is positive and inclusive and even a little bit more than that [...] It’s about a huge party. It’s about everybody coming together to party and that’s the message.” And one of my favorite comments he continued with was, “It’s not that hard to promote comedy during the apocalypse”
Which is something that we can all crack a smile at this holiday season in light of the chaos we are in.
Yes, T.J. Miller, you are absolutely correct. Our lives may be on fire right now, but at least we have one of the funniest casts of the year to get us through it.
Miller continued with:
“...I don’t know. It’s just -- it’s just a good time. And also it wouldn’t hurt for us all to not have to talk to our families for an hour and a half [...] And then to be funny which it is, then you get about an hour talking about how funny it was, how dynamic Jennifer Aniston and Courtney B. Vance were. How weird I looked in a Santa suit and how arresting and abrasive my facial hair continues to be. You know, that’s a bonus. So we’re offering you sort of two-and-a-half to three hours of stress-free holiday with family. So it’s a pretty good pitch right now more than ever.”
And I can’t complain if my family is silent for a couple hours to watch a feel good film. It’s like killing two birds with one stone. A good film, and a silent fam.
On what his favorite moments from the film was, Miller expounded on the scene “when I was slip and sliding with Courtney B. Vance because that was a real stunt. We really did it.We were moving like really fast, like 15, 20 miles an hour.”
It was here that I had an “OMG” moment, and my inner mom freaked out over whatever injuries I assumed were to be confessed to me next, but have no fear because they had, “harnesses on.” Cut to my sigh of relief.
Miller proceeded to explain that:
“it was just so funny. He’s this you know award-winning dramatic actor and he’s such a silly goose in this movie. And we just both had so much fun doing that, doing different poses and dabbing and just joking about and it ended up being just kind of, I don’t know, that was just that was the part of the movie that was just fun. It was just silly. It was fun. But you know the movie was really good to make ‘cause it’s all comedians, aside from Courtney B. Vance but [...] he’s very, very funny. So all the scenes were pretty fun especially the conference room scene was so silly. [...] That was the first day that any of us had worked with Jennifer Aniston, so everybody really brought their A game.”
If you get the chance this holiday season, grab your friends, and your familia, and spend a night pretending that you are also partying, and wishing that your office Christmas parties were as cool as this one.
And yes, T.J. Miller is the lovable Mr. Mucus from the Mucinex commercials in case you were wondering (I know that you probably were).
