Why I love bleeding orange.

Tis The Season To Be Thankful: Cuse Edition

Ever since I was little, it has been drilled into my head that the holidays are a time to be thankful and reflect on everything you have. Every year it has been the same things: my family, my friends, a shelter over my head. But as I transitioned to college, things began to change and my perspectives grew, I'm not saying I'm not thankful for my parents anymore, but now little things hold substantiality in my mind. Going to Syracuse isn't just going to school, it's a lifestyle decision. So with the holidays around the corner, I'd like to give odes to the school that's given such much to me. So here's to you Cuse, cheers to:

Jim Boeheim

Cheers to being one of the coolest basketball coaches, even at 71. Thank you for putting Syracuse basketball on the map and helping grow so many legends. You couldn't have Syracuse without Carmelo Anthony and you can't have Carmelo without you. Who else can say their coach got ejected from a game with only 10 seconds left? And even with 108 wins unjustly revoked, you're still flawless. So thank you for making basketball season so great.

A Beautiful Campus

Thank you for being one of the prettiest campus', making the 8 a.m. struggle to class a little bit easier every morning. It's really like a little town walking through campus. Plus, it's pretty cool to say you have a building that looks like Hogwarts on your campus. And last but not least, thank you for being a wonderful opportunity for an insta post.

Otto

Thank you for being the cutest thing about Syracuse. While you might not be the most intimidating mascot around, you're what makes Syracuse unique. Who else can say their mascot rides a scooter around campus or can spin his body around in a cute fashion?

DJ's

Thank you for being a safe haven freshman year. Even when nothing was going down on frat row, you were always there, beaconing the way with the promises of fishbowls, but most importantly, warmth. And as crowded as it was and as sloppy as people got, thank you for giving us our first taste of adulthood and for memories we wish we could forget- but hey, that's college for you.

Kimmel

Thank you for being the light at the end of the tunnel after a long night out. Whether it was 7 p.m. or 2 a.m., you were always there with doors open and the promise of greasy quesadillas or chicken tenders. And thank you for taking super plus money, a reminder that I don't have to be an adult quite yet.

That We're Not Duke Or Georgetown

"It's 5 p.m. and Georgetown still sucks." Enough said.

Warm Weather

It's not very common here but when you do appear, we can't be more thankful. Thank you for remind us that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, that we'll survive the tundra eventually. So thank you for giving us a reason to lay out on the quad in shorts in 50+ degree weather and for the numerous snaps we'll take talking about the heat wave.

Juice Jam/Mayfest

Thank you for being some of the best events of the semesters. It's like a mini rave right in your backyard and the best part: free entrance and free food. Thank you for giving us some of the greatest acts and an opportunity for us "basic" girls to wear high wasted shorts and flower crowns.

Marshall Street

Thank you for giving us an escape from the horrors that can be the dinning hall food. With numerous options from Chipotle or Varsity, thank you for always being there for us. And even more importantly, for delivery through grub hub, because you've saved us the struggle of trying to get food in the dead of winter or at extraneous hours of the night while drunk.

Football Season

Though football isn't our speciality this season, thank you for giving us a reason to all come together. Tailgates wouldn't be possible without you and the flood of orange crossing the streets is what makes school spirit so great. You make wearing orange acceptable.

The Memories

They say college is the best four years of your life and being here has gone above and beyond my expectations. You've become the place we can't live without, the place we never wanna leave, our home away from home. So thank you for everything over the years, the ups and the downs, and even the horrid weather. You've shaped our lives more than we'll ever know and for that, I'll always bleed orange.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
