Winter has returned to Montana. After a good month of pretty tedmperate weather (and driving conditions), we've been lulled into a false sense of security and have started transition to our summer driving habits. So as a quick reminder, here are some tips and tricks to stay safe while driving in wintry weather.
1. Stay at home!
Really, when there's a winter storm or blizzard warning out for the entire state, the best way to stay safe on winter roads is to stay off of them. Curl up in comfy clothes with a fuzzy blanket and a cup of cocoa and binge watch Friends. But if you really must drive somewhere ...
2. Slow down!
You have a lot more reaction time at 55 or 45 than you do at 65 or 75. When the roads are bad, slow down, so even if you do go off the road, you just slide safely into the ditch instead of landing yourself in a more severe situation.
That's it! Those are the only two things you need to know to stay safe while driving in winter conditions in Montana. Stay home if possible, but slow down if necessary so you reach your destination safely.
