Long distance relationships can be hard and almost never work out. I've been in a long distance relationship for almost a year and trust me, it takes a lot of work, but we make it work. Long distance relationships can happen to anyone. Your boyfriend's job could send him to another state or country, your girlfriend goes to school far away, etc. Long distance isn't the end of the world or the relationship, it just about how to make it work. Here are some tips for surviving a long distance relationship.

1) Netflix dates.

Or just dates in general, just because you are far away doesn't mean you can't still do the same activities you did when you were physically together.

2) Dinner dates.

While I don't suggest taking your Skype date into a restaurant, this is the same concept as Netflix. He might be having his first meal of the day, but who said you can't have breakfast for dinner?

3) Get a good friend group.

Your friends will be there to keep you sane and support your relationship.

4) Text, email, Facebook message...

Staying in contact is key. It's great to have fun with friends or to have time to yourself, but if you want your relationship to work, you need to keep each other up to date on events in your lives.

5) Visit!

Go see each other! Use those frequent flyer miles for something worth while!

6) Or meet half way.

Traveling can get expensive so you can always meet your partner half way and discover a new place together.

7) Care packages!

Gifts are always great and are a cute way to celebrate holidays or birthdays.

8) Keep yourself busy.

Don't drive yourself crazy with missing your partner, distract yourself with work so that you don't seem clingy. They are an aspect of your life, not your whole life.

9) Remain loyal.

Nothing is worse than being in a unhappy relationship. If you can't handle the distance, break up with that person, they deserve to know the truth.

10) Make plans for the future.

Remember that the distance doesn't have to be forever and planning for the future gives you a light at the end of the tunnel.

11) Support each other.

Whether it's work or family that has created this long distance situation, supporting one another is important. You would want them to do the same for you.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
