Recently being in a rut myself, I knew I had to pull myself out. As easy as it is to stay down and let negative thoughts get the best of you, I chose to make the best out of things. It wasn’t easy, but I learned a few tricks that can change your negative and stagnant stance.

1. Read a book.

Now, I know not everyone likes to read, but if you can stand it, DO IT. It was probably the best decision I made about a week ago when I didn’t have Friday night plans. I pulled out a random love story from under my bed and got wrapped up in it. In a way, it was like escaping my reality and living someone else’s.

2. Write down what you are feeling.

Again, not everyone is a fan of writing. However, going around telling everyone that you are bored in life, that won’t get anything done. But when you take the time to write something out, it takes a lot more energy and without even realizing it, you are pouring your negative emotions into the words on your paper. This way, everyone wins. You don’t let your emotions fester and you don’t transfer negativity to anyone else.

3. Do something spontaneous!

This isn’t always easy depending on finances, classes, and work, but there are things you can do. For example, you can go for a walk, drive through Atlanta or any city at night to see the pretty lights and activity, or even just drive around. Get yourself out of your habits! Nothing is going to change until you do.

4. Plan something.

Get concert tickets to one of your favorite bands, set up a Facebook page event inviting everyone out or in for a girls night, or plan a trip somewhere! This way, you will have something to be excitedly looking forward to!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
