5 Things To Do When Life Is Too Hard
Hope Orr

Life is too hard a lot of the time. I've been certainly feeling very overworked, and just exhausted and sad a lot recently. I'm sure a lot of people understand the feeling. But my fatal flaw is that I am strictly an optimist, so under all the stress and in the very little downtime I am trying so hard to focus on happy things so I don't go insane.

So here are those things; just in case you need them for a little bit of happiness in your life.

1. Comedy

Whether it's "SNL" Skits at 4am (if it is we should really be friends) or Netflix comedy specials, or rewatching "Friends" for the millionth time, laughing is a natural medicine.

2. Movies from your childhood

Monsters Inc. never fails to make me happy.

3. Good music

Nothing is better than having a soundtrack for yourself.

4. Focusing on a hobby you miss

When life gets a little too busy, it's good to stop and focus on something you genuinely enjoy that you've missed. I personally have picked back up reading for when I feel too stressed, it feels good to get away.

5. Remember the outcome

I know I've certainly felt overextended these past few weeks, but what's pushing me through it is knowing that all my hard work will pay off. We all are working towards some goal and I know once I reach it, the stress won't matter.

So don't forget that it's good to take some time off for you sometimes. Sure, it's super important to get involved and be active. We're all very busy people but taking time for yourself is crucial. Taking alone time has been proven to significantly improve your mental health, and when you feel busy and overwhelmed you have to take care of your mental health.

There is nothing wrong with admitting that you are your #1 priority, and nothing wrong with acting like it either. Take time for you,, you deserve it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
