Finals week is upon us! As easy as it is to let the stress overwhelm you, there are many ways to combat the frenzy of finals and have a successful finals week. So, with seven days of finals upon us, let's look at seven different ways to remain cool this week.

1. Stay calm.

This is the first and most important rule of surviving this finals' week. It is important to remain calm so that you can focus and prepare for your finals. If your panicking, you'll waste time worrying about finals instead of using that precious time to prepare for them!

2. Organize, organize, organize.

This will be the make or break of your finals' week. It is important to first know when your finals are. Then categorize your finals from most time needed to least time needed to be successful. Then, proceed to make a study plan for each day before finals. Start with today, and outline how much time you will dedicate to each class and what subjects/topics you will cover per class per day. With this plan, you can't go wrong!

3. Drink plenty of water.

It is important to remain hydrated especially since you are going to be mentally drained don't be dehydrated too! This is an easy tip to forget when acing your final is usually all a student can think about. Don't forget to drink water or it will make studying even more exhausting!

4. Have a clean work environment.

It is important to make sure that wherever you are studying or working is organized. Having a messy workspace correlates to a messy mind. It is hard to focus on the assignment at hand when there is a distracting mess drawing your attention. Once your workspace is cleared, your mind will be too, and you will be able to dive into your work full force.

5. Have a positive mindset and attitude.

If you dream it you can do it, and that is entirely true! If you don't believe in yourself, it becomes so much harder to succeed. It is important to know that you are smart and successful and able to manage finals week! Whether it is your first or your fourth, just remember that anything is possible, especially with a positive attitude.

6. Get plenty of sleep.

This one may seem not that important as knowing the material but it truly is! Trying to study or take a final exhausted never ends well. If you are tired, your brain is too, and sufficient sleep is what you need to combat this problem. After you get a good nights rest, you will feel refreshed and more prepared to take on that day's challenges!

7. STUDY!

A no brainer right? It seems that way, but many students simply do not dedicate enough time to no time at all to studying for their finals. It is so important to not procrastinate studying, as challenging and tedious as it is because this is what your success falls on. Sit down, eliminate the distractions, take a deep breath, and dive in.

With these tools in your belt, it is hard to go wrong. Study hard, organize, and don't forget to sleep. Good luck!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
