6 Tips For Flying From A Professional Frequent Flier

My father travels for work. Every other week he has to get on a plane and fly to a hotel, stay there for a week, before getting back on a plane to fly back home. As a family, we have been on many trips together back to my home country of Brazil. He's given me several tips on how to better fly and best ways to find hotels.

Since I am such a nice person, I am going to share them with you.

1. Check and take offers.

If the hotel is giving you an upgrade on a room or an airline wants to provide you with a better seat; take it. However, also sign up for offers that they have on their websites. They want you visiting their sites, so they will try to entice you with offers to make you come back as often as you can!

2. Keep an eye on your points.

Some companies, like American Airlines, use a point system where the more you fly and more hotels you use the more points you earn, the more points you can spend for more hotels and flights. But there is a cautionary tale here; sometimes they will charge you a ridiculous amount of points that would cost less if you paid for it without points. Something that is high in points might just be cheaper to pay cash.

Also, points expire! Don't let them expire on you find a way to either use them or take a trip to protect the points.

3. Security is hell, but everyone has to go through it.

I know. I know. Going through security is horrible. But imagine for a second my pour dad, he goes through security every other week. He has to take his shoes off. Remove all the electronics from his bags. Every week. Now, I could write an entire article about security hell, but that's not going to help anyone. You are going to have to go through it.

Heres the easiest way to make it go smoother: know what you can and can't take on the plane and plan accordingly. You can't bring liquids over 3.4 ounces if you want to drink anything you have to either buy or bring an empty refillable water bottle. If your bringing electronics then you are going to need to remove them from the bag, don't bury them under other items. You have to remove your shoes to go through so wear something that is easy to take off. Not something that requires you to take off seven buckles to take off your shoes. Keep your bag clean. Don't keep old receipts or things your not going to use on the flight in your bag.

4. What to pack in your carry on bag.

Bring your charger and a portable charger, because you're going to be spending a lot of time on your phone. But also bring something to do, a book to read, a game you and a friend can play, a project your working on, anything that's going to make the flight or the wait go faster. Bring all of your documents, check to make sure you have everything. Bring a jacket because flights get cold, and sometimes the places are you're going to has a change of weather.

5. Be aware of your surroundings.

This is less of a tip for flights and hotels, but for traveling in general. Know where you are and where you are going. Is the hotel near or far from the airport, what direction are you going in? Are you getting an uber, a taxi? What route will they take?

This takes a bit planing, more than just a bit, but all in all, traveling is a whole lot of planning for a lot of fun.

Just remember to let people you know and trust where you are going and how long you will be traveling for. Always better safe than sorry.

6. Know which setting to use on your browser.

Something that most companies do is increase prices as soon as they realize that you are looking for flights. when you use the private tab setting on Chrome or Opera they don't know that you are looking and the prices for flights won't go up. This also happens with hotel prices. Another thing you can do is delete your cookies while you serech.

Happy flying!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
