Important Tips For You, The Freshmen

Freshmen year is full of so many new adventures. You get to make friends, possibly move out, and live on your own as an adult. Freshman always have the idea that college will be nothing but fun, or nothing but endless work. Both of these ideas can be true, but there is a little more in between them. Freshmen have to find the happy medium for themselves. This can be a challenge for some and really easy for others. But, never get too comfortable, because the tables will turn when you least expect it.

My first tip for freshmen is to make friends early and narrow them down later. It is always better to have a lot of friends your first few weeks of class and to narrow them down throughout the semester, than being alone for the first few weeks. College isn't always an easy transition, and having a lot of friends and people who are going though it with you will help you a lot. Once the semester continues, you'll realize who you click better with, and who you grow closer to. Then you'll start to see the real friends you'll have for the next four years of your life and hopefully after too.

My second tip to you freshmen is to study from day one! I know; all parents, professors, and even grandparents say this, but it is so true! Everything will be easier if you just start studying from day one! It is beyond stressful to never understand what is going on in your class, and to have to catch up and keep up at the same time. Save yourself the stress for other things!

Another tip is to not put off work. Coming from personal experience, it is never good to put anything off. It all adds up super fast! One day you'll have a three page paper to type, then the next day you'll have two math assignments, biology notes, and two three page papers due the next day. It is better to take a few hours everyday and get things done then spend all day and all night in the library, trust me.

My final tip to freshmen is to have fun! Everyone says this too, but it is important. Don't lock yourself in your dorm and just study. Go out, meet friends, have fun, but be safe! You have to find the happy medium in college, and everyone will find theirs eventually. Hopefully the tips will help you find yours a little easier.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
