Everyone has probably come across a thing that has to do with tipping servers and I want to express my concern on that topic. I am a server and this serving job is definitely my first. I have bills that I have to pay every month just like everyone else. Why do you come out to eat and turn around and not even tip at least 15%? I would understand if a sever did a sh*tty job, but for some of us that engage with y'all and actually do our jobs....please tip at least the 15%. I depend on tips to pay my bills. It just gets so frustrating seeing some of these servers work day and night to get as much tip money as they can to pay for things. I don't want to hear the whole "well the restaurant has to compensate". Yeah, we know, but you also know that taxes get taken out too. So we do not get much of a paycheck either way.
Another thing, parents....TEACH YOUR KIDS TO TIP. It gets so frustrating going to pick up a party full of teenagers and getting maybe $5 off the whole table? I was talking to a mom about that the other day and she was agreeing that parents need to teach their kids to tip. I get that they may not understand serving life, but then educate them. We don't like to serve you for free. Really, we don't. If you cannot afford to tip the server, then order to-go or go get fast food, but do not come sit in my section and waste my time. I could be serving another table who would actually tip me the 15%.
I know this is ridiculous, but I have seen so many credit card copies with a line crossed through the tip mark or a 0 put there and no cash tip on the table. I am the first to admit when I didn't take care of a table well when I should have, but it is RARE. Servers are getting sick of this. We are. Servers do a lot and we take a lot of the blame when the kitchen messes up orders. We are the first ones that get the fingers pointed at. We are the messengers that get shot.
Do not get us wrong, we are grateful to have this job. We are grateful for the people who do tip even if it is a dollar, but what's fair is fair and I am urging some of you guys to tip the 15%. There are days I wish our restaurant would automatically take the tip out, but then again I know that isn't always the right thing to do. This is 2017 and if you still do not know that it is the right thing to do to tip your server, then educate yourself quickly, please.
Okay, rant over. Just sticking up for servers around the world who know this is a thing and that this thing sucks. This thing shouldn't even be an issue, but it is.
