It's the beginning of the year! The time of year where all the award ceremonies happen for movies, charity events, music, and so much more that have happened during the year before. But with all the sexual misconduct, sexual abuse, and rape allegations has put a new light into the Hollywood life. Along with discrimination claims for the color of their skin.
#Timesup has been floating around social media putting into light the struggles that women not only in Hollywood face but all over as well.
Women who have been denied a pay raise to be paid the same amount as their male counterparts. Even have been laughed at for asking to be paid the same. Women whom been sexually harassed, and or sexually abused and told to keep their mouth shut or be ruined. Or in fact, silenced. Women whom been raped and held it all inside for fear of no one believing them. And when they do come out their worse fear is realized, they are told they are over exaggerating claims. Lying just to make a good MALE figure look bad.
This is the unfortunate fate of women around the world. The #Timesup initiative is fighting against the preconceived notions and discrimination women are facing. Women like Paz de la Huerta, Annabella Sciorra, Daryl Hannah, Brit Marling, Lupita Nyong'O just to name a few, who have spoken out openly about the sexual abuse, and sexual misconduct they have suffered at the hands of Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Women like Catt Sadler, former host of E-News. Sadler refused to stand to be paid half of what her co-star, who is so much inexperienced as her in journalism, was being paid. Sadler had the experience, the credentials, and the bubbly personality but her new co-star who was a male was being paid more. When she re-negotiated her contract they refused to pay her anything close to what her co-star was making. Refusing to stand for it Catt left the job she loved because she knew her worth. #Timesup for women being seen as beneath men, and not being paid equally.
I stand with all those who stand with women to have equal rights. For women to have equal pay as men. For women not having to worry about being sexually harassed, or sexually assaulted by their male counterparts or bosses. #Timesup on women laying down and being silent while grieving for all the hurt and pain they are facing. and #timesup with people just accepting it as the norm. No one is standing for this behavior and discrimination against women.
I know where I stand on this matter, but the question is do you?
