Somehow, summer 2016 is two weeks away from ending. I'm not even sure how that is possible, but here we are. As the fall semester is rapidly approaching, I've been thinking about why summer seems to vanish so quickly. And thus, I have created a timeline of summer, including all the major events, to map out where all the time went:
1. End of finals.
You walk out of that last exam of spring semester with probably the greatest sigh of relief on earth. Now, for three long months, you don't have to think about school, tests or papers. And then, you probably collapse into bed for a much deserved nap.
2. Going home.
After finals are over, it's time to throw all your stuff in boxes and pack up your little slice of home on campus. And then its time for the long journey home to your comfortable room and a home-cooked meal.
3. Reunions.
For all those friends you haven't seen in forever (or at least since Christmas break). Note: this is a high point of summer.
4. Start of work.
After your initial elation at the end of school work, you realize that you are trading in textbooks for a timeclock. After all, you'll need money to finance those late-night food runs.
*Long stretch of June hopefully filled with fun summer adventures.*
5. Fourth of July.
Fireworks, barbecue and America. This also always feels like the halfway point of summer.
6. Start of goodbyes.
There always seem to be that one friend who is leaving super early for a study abroad program or some other adventure. This is probably the first time you realize that summer is coming to a rapid conclusion.
7. End of work.
Just like that, you're walking out on your last day. Hopefully, you're leaving with a happier bank account.
8. Packing.
Realizing that you have to actually sort through the boxes you so carefully packed a few months ago is rather eye-opening.
9. More goodbyes.
This time you're leaving and you have to say goodbye to all those high school friends and your summer co-workers.
10. Going back
And just like that, you're back on campus for another year.
