If You're Skipping Classes And Meals To Keep Up In College, Learn Time Management

Time management is key to getting through college.

A few days ago, I saw a tweet (it has been deleted) about college being so difficult that it doesn't allow college students enough time to eat or sleep unless they skip class. The person also stated that no one cares about the given situation, and it should be changed. Personally, I think this is a bunch of crap.

College can be difficult, but it isn't so difficult that you don't have time to do anything else except school work. I've never skipped a class so I could sleep/nap or even eat. When I skipped class (sorry fam), it was because I just didn't want to go or I was already ahead on work and didn't need to go.

I've had semesters where I had to write 30+ papers and write 2-3 journal entries every week. That doesn't include the projects, exams, or even quizzes that I had to work on as well. I was tired and worn out, but it wasn't because I was staying up so late working on work that I didn't have enough time to sleep. I was worn out because my brain was always working.

I never missed class that semester nor did I miss a meal because I was too swamped with work to do so. I planned ahead and got really good at managing my time. I also developed a relationship with my professors, so I felt comfortable talking to them if I had an issue with something.

This past week, I had to meet with a professor about a presentation. I also had four exams, a quiz, a paper, and two online assignments that needed to be done before the week ended. When I met with my professor, I told her about my workload because she told me I looked stressed. When I did that, she gave me a two-day extension on my presentation. I didn't ask for it, and she originally offered a five-day extension.

This proves people do care, especially professors. They want to see you succeed, and they will work with you to make sure you do.

I've also noticed that schoolwork comes in waves. Most of the time, semesters aren't jam packed with work every single week; it comes in waves (usually around midterms and finals week) when you have an extreme amount of work. All of that is listed on the syllabus, so there is no reason why a person can't start on an assignment ahead of time instead of the week or night before it is due.

Time management takes a little while to grasp, but you're not going to make it through college if you don't learn it. Once you do, college becomes a lot easier and doesn't seem impossible.

So, if you're having to skip class so you can sleep or eat, you may want to think about what you're doing throughout the day and consider modifying it so you're able to get your work done. Put yourself on a schedule and find times to do work whether it is in between classes or afterwards. Find the time to do work, and you will be just fine.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
