3 Things I Have Realized About This Generation
Social News Daily

As I go about my day, talking to classmates or scrolling through social media, there's a lot I pick up on about my generation. No two generations are the same, but this generation is surely unique! Here are three things I've realized about my generation:

1. We're Afraid of Talking to Each Other

While I am not generalizing my whole generation as fearful conversationalist, it is evident that a lot of us have lost touch with communicating face-to-face. For the older readers you may not be aware of the term "Twitter Fight", but for this generation you know this term all too well. This generation doesn't talk nearly enough as we need to, but when we do, for some reason a twitter fight comes out of it. A twitter fight is basically where one person subtweets another person about something they did that upset them. It is usually obvious who they are subtweeting, and the person takes it upon their self to subtweet back. Then you have a bunch of people liking and retweeting the argument until the whole thing is blown out of proportion. This has allowed many people to boldly say what they would never say to a persons face, mostly because it's rude and they might get punched for talking to someone that way.

2. We Want to Do the Right Thing

Once again, I am not generalizing my entire generation. However, being at school and having friends that go to different schools, I can see the ambition in this generation.

Of course, as teenagers we're going to make bone-headed mistakes. It's almost unavoidable. But at the end of the day, a lot of us really are trying to do what's right. Whether it be staying up until 1 in the morning doing homework, being on the phone for hours trying to be a helpful friend or even making untimely jokes in class trying to make sure everyone has a smile on their face, we really are trying here. We may not have it figured out yet that if we started our homework in class when the teacher gave us the opportunity to, we wouldn't have to stay up so late to it. Or we may not have it figured out that even though being on the other end of the line for hours is a nice gesture, we do have other responsibilities to tend to. Or we haven't figured out that it really annoys the teacher to interrupt the lesson with a joke, despite how funny it is. But I can honestly say, we're trying to do the right thing.

3. We Are At A Big Advantage

Never before has knowledge been so easily accessible. We walk around with computers in our pockets, and sometimes only use it for Twitter fights. Generations before us were not graced with such a convenient resource on them pretty much all the time. It is very easy for this generation to be more aware of what's going on in our world, to know whether we will need to grab an umbrella before we leave home, to turn in homework that we forgot on our bedside table.

Millennials everywhere should be thanking God that we were born when we were, because life has been a lot easier thanks to smart phones and other advances in technology.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
