Counting down the last minutes before starting freshman year, I made it a priority to make the most of my summer. Buying tickets way in advance, I could hardly wait for August to get here. Something about dancing with a large crowd and knowing the words to every song makes my heart explode with excitement. Attending a live concert is always an experience, but going to three in a row can be exhausting. Thank you, Summer 2018, for turning me into a music addict and giving me the best nights of my life.
I bought tickets to see Taylor Swift in December. Yes, December of last year. Eight months sitting on pins and needles to see my queen. I have been a Swiftie since 2007, and on August 11 all my seven-year-old dreams came true. While believing I would have seats in the upper deck of Mercedes Benz Stadium the night before moving to college, I didn't care about being tired the next day. Out of the blew, however, my mom managed to get my sister and me FIFTH ROW SEATS on Friday night instead of Saturday. This gave me some relief to have enough time to pack and go to the best concert ever. Needless to say, the Reputation Stadium Tour changed my whole outlook on summer concerts, and I will forever buy tickets to see T-Swizzle every year.
The second concert was unexpected. I didn't plan on getting tickets and wasn't that interested in either of the artists. After arriving on campus at Alabama, I found out that Brett Young and Sevyn Streeter would be performing at Coleman Coliseum for a Welcome-Back concert. Meeting new people and making connections, my roommates and I decided to attend. I'm not the biggest R&B fan, but I can tolerate Sevyn Streeter. Waiting an hour and a half, Brett Young finally performed his number-one hit, Mercy, and we had a great time. Never underestimate the power of live music and a night out with your girls.
Last but not least, my mom revisited me in Tuscaloosa to see Keith Urban at the local amphitheater. I'm not the biggest country music fan, but I knew this concert was important to her. Making our way down to the pit, all I can remember is the smile on her face dancing to "Days Go By". We had the best seats in the house, and Keith Urban put on a show. Despite having to stand forever and a day, this summer night was one to remember. I have grown to appreciate country music and the importance of it in Alabama culture. I will forever love T-Swift and the overwhelming love she shows to her fans. I hope Brett Young becomes a successful musician and has a successful career. Concert season is not over yet, and I'm excited for what's next.
