I go to school half way across the country from where I live which means I spend a good amount of time in the car. I also drive to a lake that is 18 hours away every summer. That’s a lot of time to fill. A lot of time where I tend to just sit there, alone with my thoughts. I hope for your sake you are blessed with short car trips. But whether you are or you aren't here's some thoughts we can all relate to when it comes to traveling by car.
1. I can’t wait to get there
The car is freshly packed and everyone is in their unofficial assigned seats. Even the dog.
2. Finally on the highway
We are at cruising speed and everyone can relax a little.
3. Is it okay to stop talking to my parents yet?
We're going to have the whole vacation to talk lets not waste conversation topics now.
4. I’ll just put in headphones, they’ll get it
The volume is set perfectly where I can't hear the radio that's on but I can hear someone mention food.
5. What is the car ahead of us doing?
Can they pick a lane? Or, you know, a constant speed?
6. I guess I’ll play a game of solitaire
Solitaire? More like solitary confinement am I right?
7. Finally out of the state!
One down, many more to go.
8. I have to pee…
The next rest stop is in 20 miles but I need to pee right now
9. Wait, no I don’t
The rest stop is now within 5 miles and the urge is gone
10. Alright another game of solitaire
Perhaps this is the game where I actually win.
11. Maybe I’ll check social media
This sounds like a good idea until you realize you're driving through the middle of nowhere ans have no service
12. Okay I did have to pee
You are now past the rest stop and that feeling hits you again
13. Yay food break!
Finally an opportunity to stretch my legs and sit somewhere besides the backseat of a car.
14. I can't walk
Getting out of the car sounds like it would be easy until you realize your legs no longer want to support you.
15. Maybe I'll catch some z's
I will try anything to get comfortable when sleeping in the car but no matter what I end up waking up more tired than I was and with a neck cramp.
16. Why aren’t my friends texting me?
The feeling of isolation has peaked at this point.
17. Oh yeah, they have lives
They're probably doing their everyday things and I'm the loser stuck in a car.
18. Okay back to music and ignoring people
Alright, it's time for me to resort back to my normal car state of being.
19. Are we there yet?
This question gets repeated until you finally reach your destination.
