Doing a weird crash diet is a feat in itself. Eating nothing but carrots and celery with a side of grapefruit and blueberries isn’t exactly bad for you, but it can make you lose your ever loving mind. As you attempt to do your body a favor, it is almost as if you are letting down your head. With the headaches to come due to lack of caffeine and sugar, your mind can start to hate you. But while

Day One:

Day one is when you really are craving everything you can’t possible have. For me, this was chili for some odd reason. While you know its only been maybe 12 hours since you started this cleanse, you realize that a week is a really long time to go without eating pizza. You probably have a terrifying head ache that might last the rest of you life and going a week without coffee starts to seem impossible. By 8 p.m., you feel like you could go ahead and go to bed.

Day Two:

Day two is either much better or much worse, depending on your affinity for vegetables. After having cucumbers and tomatoes for breakfast, you are beginning to question your sanity altogether. But your ravenous hunger for everything in sight is dwindling. On a much worse note, you realize that packing a lunch for class is difficult and you fear your class mates and friends will judge you for the grapes you pull out of your backpack. Not to mention, the requirement of drinking between 8-12 glasses of water a day is making sitting through a class that lasts an hour and a half nearly impossible.

Day Three:

Day three isn’t so bad. With the ability to combine fruits and vegetables, the world has been my metaphorical oyster. While shoving mango, grapes, and peel and eat oranges into my backpack, I realized that I would survive this week without dying.

Day Four:

It’s your friend’s birthday and she wants to go to your favorite local Mexican restaurant. While you don’t want to upset her by not showing up, you know that watching your friends devour tacos, quesadillas, and margaritas while you are only allowed to eat between 8-10 bananas and 3 cups of milk will be your actual living hell.

Day Five:

The first happy hour brings its true woes seeing as how alcohol is not apart of your healthy eating. But again you have become fairly adjusted to eating better and a lot of the cravings have died down. Your breakfast smoothie was sufficient and you don’t seem to be terribly concerned about what is for lunch. Your body is adjusting well and you realize that vegetables aren’t as scary as you thought they were.

Day Six:

Day six started out strong with oatmeal with bananas and blueberries, only to go down hill from there with liquid calories. Weekends are the hardest part of eating healthy.

Day Seven:

While it has been an interesting week of trial and error with new recipes and healthy alternatives, it has been an overall success. I never starved myself and always allowed myself to snack, as long as it was healthy. I was okay with eating a midnight snack but rather than an entire pizza, I’d get some grapes or a banana and some peanut butter. After taking this week to better my body by feeding it fruits and vegetables, I’ve realized how important it is to love and respect the body you are in. You only get one after all, so you might as well love it and treat it right. So here’s to many more nights of baked eggplant, cucumber and tomato salad, and peel and eat oranges. Who said healthy can’t be fun?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
