7 Thoughts We All Think Doing Laundry

Everyone does laundry...unless you don’t stink and need to start or you have someone like your mom or a maid to do it for you. I would be jealous about that but… I am. These are a few of the things that go through my mind when doing my laundry.

1. Avoiding and more avoiding.

I think about all the other things I do not need to do so I can avoid having to lug my laundry to the washer and dread the thought of the folding to come in my future.

2. Sorting.

It’s important to separate delicates and colors before washing, but I always find a way to turn something white blue or red every time. I think to myself: "Just throw it all in I won’t mind a little pink tint to my white undies."

3. How much detergent is too much?

I was never told how much detergent to put into my wash and most of the time I use half a cup. More often than not, I just wing it and pour from the bottle hoping the machine doesn’t spill over with soapsuds or explode. If it did, I wouldn’t mind having a foam party in the laundry room.

When I was in college I used a solo cup once to carry my laundry detergent in and I stupidly forgot the cup had soap in it and mistook it for soda and took a nice gulp of detergent. I haven’t used a solo cup for that purpose since.

4. The Wait.

Waiting, waiting, and waiting. I happen to always do my laundry on my busiest days when I very well knew that I had plenty of time to do it the day before. My time management skills for chores need some adjustment.

5. The fear of shrinkage.

The second I turn on the dryer the fear of my clothes turning into the size of a baby onesie is ever so real. Even though I adjust the temperature setting to low, the thought is still in the back of my mind.

6. Folding is hell.

Enough said! I tend to leave my clothes in the basket as long as possible, knowing that they will be as wrinkly as a Shar-Pei by the time I get to folding them. Let's not forget about the clothes you have to hang dry. Finding a place for them to dry is like looking for a lost hair-tie.

7. Putting them way!!!!

Once I fold them the task is not fully complete until I decide where I’m going to even put my clothes since my drawers and closest are overflowing with items that do not fit me anymore. Time to donate!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
