Thoughts You Have The Last Week of Winter Break

The lovely time off from university has ended, and in a week many of us will be back in classes. Although it is nice to see friends and get back into a routine. It is sad to see the break go away and to get back into a school routine. Here are some thoughts that have been passing through my mind, and possibly yours as well.

1. Checks the calendar frequently, because one is in disbelief that weeks have passed.

2. Checks bank account to see how much money you have to spend for books, food, and the overall cost of college. (The moment you realize you spent a lot of money over winter break)

3. When you find a new show on Netflix to binge watch, but you do not have the time.

4. The temperature has started to drop and you do not want to leave your bed. Let alone go to those 7 AM classes you signed up for this semester.

5. The time has come to say goodbye to your friends who are going back to their colleges.

6. You check the syllabus and realize you have a 300 dollar textbook. That you can not rent, and the only available copy is new.

7. Home cooked food is not a thing at college, so you eat as much as you can now. The diet is ramen, mac and cheese, and coffee.

8. The realization sets in that you will have to write papers again, a lot of them.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
